Initially, Le Rnst was going to be a bass trio. But, in improvisation, things don’t always work out as we think. We wanted to pay homage to an austere and serious man naming the trio after him, but we lost the vowels along the way. Then we played a few gigs in Canada, Switzerland, France, Austria, but three basses are heavy and bulky.
We bartered the first one for a treble viol, we folded the second and we lost (and found again) the third one on a train. We finally arrived in Paris in the nick of time to join the clarinet player we thought to invite along for our next tour and played with him an unforgettable concert thanks to the generous acoustics of the Church of Saint-Merri.
Martel and Normand are two Québécois improvisers very active on the international scene. The latter got noticed by making a lot of noise, the first one shrouding himself in silence. On this project, they are joined by two European friends with an equally busy agenda.

A complete and satisfying musical experience which, though very accessible will take an age to sink in..It's one of those pieces you can get lost in and keep coming back for more.
Recorded in Huddersfield, a mill town I lived in back in the 60's.The days of the legend Frank Worthington, the high rise of the Lonsbrough and Ibbotson flats,Harold Wilson! Yet so much more to the place than that as this terrific album gives testimony to.There will always be something fresh in the air of that valley ! MIKE ANDERSON
