J’ai composé Toute clarté m’est obscure en 2013. Cette œuvre a comme ancêtres De cælo servare (2011) et lieux-dits (2006). C’est une de ces créations qui ne devraient pas marcher sur papier: il y a trop de musiciens (tous très occupés) et trop de logistique, la pièce est trop longue et impossible à programmer… Pourtant, des années plus tard, après deux concerts majeurs et un album, je suis ravi de constater que cette musique roule encore. Quelle joie!

I wrote Toute clarté m’est obscure in 2013. In my catalogue, its direct ancestors are De cælo servare (2011) and lieux-dits (2006). It’s one of these pieces that shouldn’t work on paper: too many (very busy) people involved, too many moving parts, the piece is too long, impossible to book anywhere… Then, years later, with two major concerts and an album, I’m overjoyed to realize that this music is still going strong. What a joy!
